Building Relationships

Do you find your team doesn’t trust you?

As a leader, your team of managers needs to know that you trust them completely and that your number one goal is building relationships.

All to often leaders undermine their managers. Which pushes their managers away and creates relationship walls.

So what does it mean to empower your team and trust them completely? As a leader or a manager trusting yourself is the key to lasting relationships for your team.

This week I talk with Lisa McNiven, from Taylor-Made public works consulting. She joins me to talk about trust and building relationships. You’ll love the insight she has to share.

Building Relationships: Trust, Integrity, and Compassion

Trust

Trust is the foundation of any successful relationships, especially where teamwork is crucial. As a farm leader, it’s important to build and maintain trust with your team. This involves being transparent, reliable, and consistent in your leadership actions and decisions.

When your team trusts you, they are more likely to be open, honest, and willing to take risks. Trust fosters a sense of security and loyalty, which in turn leads to higher levels of engagement and performance. In my last blog I talked about trusting your “who’s” and how important it is to completely trust them.

Now trust is earned and it is also between two people but you also need to trust yourself in order to completely trust others. Taking the time to build relationships with yourself will help you to overflow that trust with others.

Integrity

Integrity is about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. It’s about being honest, ethical, and fair in all your relationships. From a place of trusting yourself you can then look at your moral compass and pass it on. Now we can’t change others but we can show them who we are with no expectation.

No one is perfect, not even us and it’s important to note that if we go off the rail we need to be honest with ourselves and own up to our failure and learn.

As a leader, your integrity sets the tone for the entire operation. When you lead with integrity, you create a culture of accountability and respect for your who’s to follow. Your team will look up to you as a role model and strive to uphold the same standards of honesty and fairness in their own work.

Compassion

Compassion is the ability to understand and empathize with the feelings and experiences of others. As a leader, showing compassion means being attentive to the needs and concerns of your team members.

It’s about offering support, encouragement, and understanding, especially during challenging times. Compassionate leadership fosters a sense of belonging and well-being, which can significantly enhance team morale and productivity.

In conclusion, trust, integrity, and compassion are the cornerstones of effective leadership relationships.

By cultivating these qualities, you can create a positive and supportive environment where your team can thrive and achieve their full potential.

Take Aways

This week take the time to look for ways to build lasting relationships with those who’s you’ve trusted. Be the Trusting, Compassionate leader who has integrity. What ways are you going to empower and intentional today?
